The Cake Final

Tonight was my last Lesson One Wilton Cake Decorating Class.

We learned how to make roses and write with frosting. I caught on pretty quickly, and started to work on my "final cake."

Quick Note: I made my frosting a little differently than than the Wilton workbook says to. I used half Crisco, and half unsalted butter. It tasted MUCH better and was easier to work with as long as I didn't get it too warm with my hands.

So, my final cake was something I could decorate any way I wanted. Of course, I chose a Disney theme!
"Oh Boy!" It's Minnie and Mickey getting ready for a kiss!

The inside was chocolate with chocolate layers. Yummy!

I'm thinking about taking the next class in September, but I'm not sure yet. Things are starting to get busy before Baby Boy comes!

Quick Weekend Recap

This weekend was a tiring one. It started off with the Elevate Youth Lock-In at our church, which, of course we were there for.

The night started off with worship, which was wonderful. I was stuck up in the balcony working the slides, so the pictures I got aren't great.
Right before worship started... setting up.

In the middle of worship.

After worship, the youth played flashlight tag, and ate pizza. Then we all jumped in a few vehicles and went midnight bowling! I was worried about taking that many people bowling and keeping track of people, but it actually worked out really well. Three hours later, we all went back to the church. Now this is where things get fuzzy for me... I slept. Yep, I was the loser who locked herself in a room and "slept." Everyone else was out playing more flashlight tag, basketball, board games, more worship, and eating snacks; but hey, I'm pregnant, and when this girl needs to sleep, don't mess with me! GRRRR!

I put "slept" in quotes because it was more like doze for a little and then jump awake when the youth started yelling. It didn't help that the little man inside me could hear all the noise and would kick as if to say, "What was that?"

Once the lock-in was done, Justin and I packed up and headed home for some real sleep. We got home a little after 8am, and ended up sleeping until almost 1pm! Well, we got our butts up out of bed and worked on the nursery!

I am so excited about this. I've wanted trees painted on the walls in the nursery since before I was pregnant. So I did a lot of research, and decided on tree wall decals that rub on the walls and can be taken off with heat from a blow-dryer. Saturday, we put them up!
Putting up the first tree...

You can see one tree done in the background, and Justin working on another one.
I just LOVE the trees! It looks like the Hundred Acre Wood! Don't worry, once the nursery is done, I'll post lots of pictures here on my blog to show everyone!

Pregnancy Update - 25 Weeks

How Far Along: 25 Weeks

Total Weight Gain/Loss: I have gained two pounds since being pregnant. (Technically it's five because I lost three when I first got pregnant, but the doctor is only counting two. So, I'm only going to count two as well!)

Gender: BOY! We are so excited!

Movement: I think my baby might grow up to be a dancer, because I'm pretty sure I have a break-dancer in my tummy! I have a very active baby! He HATES being squished, so whenever I lean against something he "pushes" me away. Also, Justin finally felt his son!

Baby is Big as a: Eggplant (9.5 inches, 2 pounds)

Sleep: I'm used to the new kind of "sleep" I get.

What I miss: Not too much... just having clothing I can wear... Though I have discovered the joys of really really long and stretchy maternity tank tops...

Cravings: Oh! Salami sandwiches with white bread and lots of mustard, how I miss you! I've been loving grilled cheese sandwiches and french toast. (My husband makes the BEST french toast.)

Food Aversions: I like things like Skittles, but they give me crazy heartburn, so I guess I have an aversion to them.

Symptoms: By the end of the day my lower back is so sore and painful! I think I figured out why; I carry my baby boy really low, and he's just the height of my kitchen counters. So unless I want to squish him and have him beat me up, I have to arch my back so I can reach the stove, sink, and counter-tops... It's kind of ridiculous.

Best Moment this week: When Justin finally got to feel his son. I think I might have been more excited than him.

Something Random: All of the kids in our youth group keep forgetting I'm pregnant, and will be like "Oh man, I forgot you're pregnant, you don't look pregnant." Justin keeps assuring me it's just because I don't 'look' fat. Should I take this as a compliment?

Cupcakes and Flowers

Tonight was my third cake decorating class out of the Wilton Lesson One Book.

I have been looking forward to tonight because we were learning how to make flowers and leaves, and all sorts of other fun pretty things.

Again, I pretty much knew most of what we were doing, but I learned some new techniques. I also learned that I can't use clumpy powdered sugar because I will never be able to get all the clumps out and it will clog my decorating tips... super annoying.

We didn't decorate a whole cake tonight, we used cupcakes. Here are my three favorite cupcakes...
My shaggy "MUMppet" Cupcake... LOL.

My "No I've never worked at DQ" cupcake.

My coral cupcake. It kinda looks like something from the sea...
It was a pretty fun night, but I'm exhausted. Next week is the last class, and we are decorating our "final" cake. I already have decided on my theme..... it's a surprise.

Piece of Cake...

Tonight was my second cake decorating lesson in my Class 1 of Wilton Decorating.

It was really fun tonight! We actually decorated a cake, and I felt like I learned quite a few good tricks. For example, I got to try out the whole 'parchment paper to smooth out frosting' trick I was so enamored with last week. I also learned how to twist parchment paper into a cone instead of using the plastic bags and tips.

Here is my final product from tonight's lesson:
Not great, but with practice, I think I could do pretty well!
Evidently it tasted pretty good; because I got home, took the picture real quick, and then Justin ate some!

I'm looking forward to next week, we're learning how to make pretty flowers.

Saturday in Atlanta: Meatballs and Baseballs

Saturday was a very busy, but an incredibly fun day for Justin and I.

For me it started out at a breastfeeding support group that I was invited to so I could meet other moms, and soon-to-be moms. The group on Saturday wasn't really focused on breastfeeding, but on diapering. More specifically they were talking about the differences between cloth diapers and disposable diapers. I am more confused now, but I feel more informed. Before the class I was set on disposable diapers, now I'm 50/50 on what I should do, so if you have opinions or advice, I'd gladly hear it.

After the support group class, Justin picked me up and we drove to Atlanta, GA. We had tickets for the Braves game, but I wanted to go early so I could finish up my baby registry at a HUGE Target. It even had it's own parking garage! It was a very productive trip. I even was able to try on a bunch of maternity clothes I was only able to get online. So now I know what fits and what doesn't. I was also able to buy a really long maternity tank top too...

We got done at Target earlier that we expected, so Justin decided we should go next door to the IKEA. My life has forever been changed... I LOVE IKEA!
Me, thoroughly enjoying myself.
We didn't buy anything execpt a plate of their meatballs to share because I've been told you can't go to IKEA without trying their Swedish meatballs! They were pretty good!
After IKEA we headed to Turner Field, and for those of you who know my husband, yes, of course we arrived before the gates even opened...
Justin took a picture of me as we were walking to the ballpark.

When the gates finally opened there was a "Legends" softball game. Basically, before the real game started we got to watch the old 1991 team play softball. It was kinda funny and sad at the same time. On a happy note, Justin caught a t-shirt from one of those canon things, which was pretty awesome because we were in the cheap seats (our favorite).
Justin and his rolled up T-shirt

The view from our seats.
Once the real game started, I was already tired of sitting in the stadium seats... so the game seemed really long. It also probably didn't help that the Braves lost. To be honest, we left in the middle of the 8th inning... that's how bad it was.

We were exhausted when we got home from our very eventful day, but we both agreed it was one of the best dates we've been on since being married.

A Lemony Dream Come True....

So I just finished my pregnancy update post and the door bell rang, it was the mail lady with a GIANT package, and she says "Merry Christmas!"

I get the box inside, read who it's from (Justin's Aunt Kim from Indiana) and open it. It contained everything a pregnant woman could dream of!
I mean we are talking potato chips, lemon cookies, lemon gum, lemon Crystal Light, lemon Jelly Belly's, Lemonheads, a lemon sucker, Starburst, and even lemon lip balm! And it was all wrapped up pretty with tissue paper and in a pretty little daisy bag!

Talk about thoughtful! I think I have enough lemon stuff to last me the rest of this pregnancy and some of the next one! (Also, why is it that family always knows how work the loop holes in rules you set for yourself? Like me not buying potato chips for myself?)

Anyway, this post is the thank my Biddle family in Indiana for being AWESOME! You're crazy, but AWESOME!

Pregnancy Update - 23 Weeks

I can't tell if it's the shirt, or if I really have gained too much weight, but I look chunky! Also, why do we always take these photos at night, when I'm tired, my make-up is worn off, and my hair is flat? Poor planning!

How Far Along: 23 Weeks

Total Weight Gain/Loss: Going to the doctor tomorrow... pretty sure I've gained a lot of weight...

Gender: BOY! We are so excited!

Movement: I think my baby might grow up to be a dancer, because I'm pretty sure I have a break-dancer in my tummy! I have a very active baby!

Baby is Big as a: Ear of Corn (8.5 inches, 1.5 pounds)

Sleep: I'm used to the new kind of "sleep" I get.

What I miss: Not too much... just having clothing I can wear... I had to "retire" two more shirts this week...

Cravings: Oh! Salami sandwiches with white bread and lots of mustard, how I miss you! Red meat again.... this one is weird for me, I was a vegetarian for 8 years, never was a huge fan of red meat after those 8 years: I get pregnant and bam! I'm a carnivore!

Food Aversions: I like things like Skittles, but they give me crazy heartburn, so I guess I have an aversion to them.

Symptoms: By the end of the day my lower tummy and back are TIRED!
Justin also pointed out that I can't multi-task anymore... I just get frustrated because I used to be able to... I think it's because my brain just processes things a little slower right now...

Best Moment this week: I'm looking forward to hearing baby boy's heartbeat tomorrow, and a Braves game this weekend! Oh, before the Braves game we are stopping at a THREE STORY Target to finish up our baby registry. So lots of things to look forward too.

My First Cake Decorating Class...

Last night I had my first cake decorating class. It's a Wilton class from Michaels.

Well, it was the very first lesson from the first class; so honestly, I knew most of what was gone over.... how to bake a cake, how to make frosting, how to put the frosting in the pastry bags, etc. However, I did learn a couple new tricks. If you put meringue powder in the frosting, wait fifteen minutes after you frost the cake; you can use parchment paper to make it as smooth as fondant. Also, my mind was blown with this little gadget:
A little rubber band with a thing-a-ma-gig so you can just pop it on and off...

Silly I know, but so very nice! I've never had a problem with my frosting blowing out the top of the pastry bag, but this will make things a little easier.

Here are a few pictures of the "decorating" I did last night. It was more of making a mess that I'll have to clean up...
"J" for Justin, "B" for Baby, and "M" for Megan!

I'm looking forward to the future classes so I learn how to make flowers, and things like that. More posts to come!

My Mum's Wedding

Oh what a crazy whirlwind weekend! Yet, it was the perfect ending to a crazy month!

My mum finally got married last weekend! She has been engaged to the same man for 12 years, and with him for 13! So it was definitely time to tie the knot!

Justin and I didn't have any extra vacation time for this weekend, so my wonderful husband worked extra hours and fixed it so he could leave work on Friday at noon. So we got into Midland about 11:15pm on Friday night, and went to bed.

Saturday I woke up early and went to Big Boy with my Pop-sicle (Father), and had a little time with him. Once breakfast was done, I went back to my in-laws and got ready for the wedding. At 11 my sister-in-law did my hair (she's a hairstylist), and it looked fabulous. After that I went over to my mum's new house and helped her pick out her dress and did her make-up and a few other girly things. Then we headed over to the church!

The ceremony was quick. The only people invited were the pastor, bride, groom, my brother, my step-brother, me, and the hubby!
Adam, Me, Mum, Scott, Carson, (Back) Pastor, and Justin was taking the photos.

You may kiss the bride!
After the ceremony, we headed back to the love birds new house for family pictures and an open house! Evidently my mum made invites to their open house, but didn't tell anyone that it was partially because they got married! So most people were surprised that they finally got married!
Some family in Mum's new kitchen during the open house. Yes, I'm holding my back... I was tired!
Sunday we woke up early and drove all the way back to Tennessee!

This is my favorite photo that Justin took of my brother, me, and my mum.

It has been a crazy, and full month of friends and family. So many special memories have been created, but I must confess... I'm looking forward to a quiet August!
